The Old Barns - Great Massingham Photograph

The Old Barns

(Post Office Pit / Great Massingham, Norfolk)

This is a photo that the Estate Agent had in his window, Spalding's in Fakenham. Ant and Jeanne Robinson bought them for £5,000. They had been derelict for 20 years. They were part of The Swan, so they bought them off the Brewery. It was actually for two dwellings. Builders had wanted to knock it all down and build bungalows. Roy Carlton had been keeping his coal lorry in it, accessing through the Swan gates. It took many many years to convert or rebuild, as they did it all themselves. In the wall to the left you can see a line of bricks, this was the original thatched barn running along the front. Far right is the school and school house.
